This is good because you can really focus on having the business conversation and getting the complete data. BA: Can we talk a little bit about governance, how you create and manage this information, how you get buy in. As you know, there are different ways that people have tried this.

One way is to get all the business analysts in one program office, very closely connected to senior business managers, so that there is very much a business focus. Another approach has been to put people into different units, a much more distributed approach. Then there is the approach that says that this is an IT function, this is only tangential to the business.

I think what that tells me is that the approach you take to gain adoption of an enterprise model needs to be culturally sensitive to the business that you are in. Not just culturally, but also politically sensitive. What I mean by that is that people don"t care about data ownership until you try to take it off them.

I think that is a pretty pragmatic way to look at the world. They will say, "I don"t own it, I don"t own it. Yes, I know that it"s rubbish and I am not going to fix it.
